Police in Buhweju District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the brutal murder of a 32-year-old man.
The incident occurred on February 13, 2025, at around 7:00 PM in Kiruruma Village, Kyeyare Parish, Rwengwe Sub-County, Buhweju District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Renatis Tugumenawe, 32, a peasant and resident of the aforementioned village.
Tumusiime further identified the suspect as Ronald Nahabwe, 35.
It is alleged that while Nahabwe was returning home from a nearby trading center, he encountered the deceased, who was armed with a panga and allegedly threatened him, preventing him from passing. A struggle ensued, during which Nahabwe managed to seize the panga from Tugumenawe and used it to strike him twice on the head, causing him to collapse.
Godfrey Tumwine, 53, reported the case to the police. He stated that the deceased’s wife discovered the body and raised an alarm, attracting other villagers.
Tumwine immediately apprehended the suspect, who admitted to cutting the deceased. A blood-stained panga was recovered from Nahabwe’s house and handed over to the police as evidence.
