Police in Bushenyi District are currently investigating a case involving a 20-year-old man who allegedly defiled an 8-year-old child.
The spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, Marcal Tumusiime, has confirmed the incident.
The suspect, identified as Derrick Amanya, works casually and resides in Nyakatsiro cell, Butare ward, Kyamuhunga Town Council, Bushenyi District.
According to reports, the victim, an 8-year-old pupil of St. James Primary School and resident of the same area, returned home from school for lunch on May 30, 2024. After lunch with her parents, she left to return to school. It’s alleged that while she was in the neighborhood, she encountered the suspect who then lured her into his room and defiled her.
The mother of the victim, Beatrence Komuhangi, a 37-year-old farmer, reported the incident to the police. She stated that they became aware of the situation when they heard their daughter screaming for help approximately thirty minutes after she left home.
During the investigation, authorities recovered various items from the scene including a blanket, a towel, a black elastic rubber tire rope, and the victim’s torn clothing. Tumusiime mentioned that the suspect will face charges in court following the completion of the investigations.
