Patrick Bakyebuza, a man in his early 60s, is currently being held at the Kebisoni Town Council Police Post for the brutal assault of Phionah Katushabe, a 36-year-old widow and hotel service provider in Nyeibingo Trading Center.
Bakyebuza, a resident of Katenga Cell, Nyeibingo Parish in Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, is accused of assaulting Katushabe with a one-kilogram stone following a dispute that arose when he tried to flee without paying for his meal.
The incident occurred on September 13, 2024, when Bakyebuza received lunch at Katushabe’s hotel. As he attempted to escape without settling the bill, he was intercepted. In retaliation, Bakyebuza grabbed a stone and struck Katushabe, leaving her in a coma with severe head injuries.
Katushabe was rushed to Karoli Lwanga Hospital in Nyakibale for treatment, while Bakyebuza was arrested by officers from the Kebisoni Town Council Police Post.
Katushabe has condemned Bakyebuza’s actions, which have caused her serious disability and significant financial losses. She has vowed to seek compensation.
Bakyebuza’s case is currently under investigation, filed under SD REF 05/14/09/2024.
