Lwengo District National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders have declared their support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to remain unopposed as the party’s national chairperson. In the same vein, they endorsed Speaker of Parliament Anita Among for the position of NRM National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

The endorsement was made during a courtesy visit to Parliament, where the leaders, led by Lwengo District NRM Chairperson Cissy Namujju, met with Speaker Among and pledged their support for her bid.

Speaking during the meeting, Speaker Anita Among emphasized that her decision to seek the CEC position is driven by a desire to strengthen the NRM and bridge the gap between the party’s executive leadership and the national legislative agenda.

“I am standing for this position not for personal reasons or to challenge anyone, but to promote unity within our party and across the country,” said Among. She dismissed speculation that her move is aimed at rivaling her predecessor, Speaker Emeritus Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, stating her intention is to foster harmony and renewal within the ruling party.

Among pledged to use the position to ensure that the NRM Central Executive Committee works more closely with Parliament in advancing the government’s development agenda.

The endorsement by Lwengo leaders marks a significant show of support as the NRM gears up for internal elections and reorganization within its top leadership structures.
