Local leaders of Buhunga Sub County in Rukungiri District clashed with supporters of Honorable Minister Jim Muhwezi today, Wednesday, June 26, 2024, while monitoring government programs.
The District Works Department commenced the rehabilitation of the 4.1-kilometer Omukikunika-Omukarangara-Rusheshe road.
Benon Mugisha, commonly known as Aunt, and his team were surprised to find Honorable Minister Jim Muhwezi’s team, led by his Personal Assistant Isaac Kaharuza and former LC3 Chairperson of Buhunga Sub County Madam Toppie Kangye, partially launching the rehabilitation project with media coverage.
The Sub County authorities anticipated that Minister Muhwezi’s supporters would claim credit for the grader borrowed from the Ministry of Agriculture for the government program.
Benon Mugisha, the LC3 Chairperson of Buhunga Sub County, expressed gratitude to the District authorities for their services but condemned the growing trend of politicizing public activities for personal gain.

Ahabu Ndyamuhaki, the Sub County Councilor representing Kyaruyenje Parish, echoed Mugisha’s sentiments, stating his surprise at seeing individuals partially launching a government program and attributing it to an individual.

Following the current project, the rehabilitation of the 6.2-kilometer Kakamba-Omukidandari-Omuritaano road is planned.
An anonymous staff member of the Rukungiri District Works Department reported that Minister Muhwezi’s supporters bypassed the department, seeking verbal permission to promote the grader as a personal achievement of the Minister.
Efforts to reach Isaac Kaharuza for comment were unsuccessful as he did not answer phone calls.
