Leaders in Rutookye Town Council in Mitooma District are calling for the immediate transfer of the town clerk, Henry Natukwatsa.
They allege that Natukwatsa mismanaged shs.90 million designated for the grading of 16 kilometers of roads in the town council.
Natukwatsa’s issues with local leaders began this fiscal year when he allegedly imposed unlawful taxes on traders in the town council. Councilors Remigious Tuhimbise and Charity Turinawe, representing Rutookye Town Council, claim that the town clerk has not been transparent in accounting for government funds and has failed to implement government programs in the area.
Traders, expressing their concerns to journalists, criticized the town council leadership for imposing excessive taxes without visible development in the region.
In response, Benon Karyeija, the district boss, stated that traders have the right to appeal against the contested taxes and urged them to remain calm. He also mentioned that his office has not received any complaints against the Town clerk.
