Leaders in Ntungamo district have voiced their concern over the prolonged delay in renovating roads in their areas, attributing it to the inadequate number of tractors available for the task.
They highlighted that Ntungamo district, being one of the largest in Uganda with over 30 sub-counties, is facing disappointment due to having only one tractor assigned to renovate all district and sub-county roads.
Amanya Ivan Rwanyakibaale, Chairperson LC.3 of Rugarama North Sub County, disclosed that newly allocated sub-counties are yet to receive road funds for road renovations, leaving the district responsible for these tasks.
Rwanyakibaale noted that insufficient funding from the road fund is hindering the development of various sub-counties, adding that their request to divide Ntungamo district for better service delivery was opposed by self-interested leaders.
Atukunda Laban, Chairperson LC.3 of Nyabihoko Sub County, expressed disappointment, pointing out that Ntungamo district, despite having 34 sub-counties, receives the same road fund allocation as districts with fewer than five sub-counties.
He urged the Central Government to consider dividing Ntungamo district into smaller units to enhance service delivery.
