Chairperson LC3 of Western Division in Rukungiri Municipality, Sylvia Katimbira, urged Councilors to lead sensitization efforts aimed at reducing domestic violence during the Christmas season. Katimbira conveyed this message on Thursday, December 21, 2023, during the council session held at the Division Council Hall.
Katimbira revealed that a significant portion of her time is currently dedicated to addressing domestic violence issues linked to adultery, alcoholism, and land disputes. Consequently, she called on Councilors to actively denounce domestic violence whenever they have the opportunity during the Christmas festival.
Clive Tumwesigye, Chairperson of the Women’s League in Western Division, requested a sensitization meeting specifically for women to provide counseling. He highlighted the desperation among women due to husbands neglecting their responsibilities, leading some women to engage in adultery, alcoholism, and conflicts.
Turinawe Love, the Municipal Councilor representing Western Division, urged parents to closely monitor their daughters during Christmas activities. She emphasized the seasonal risk of girls getting pregnant due to increased mobility.
