Companies and organisations that facilitate labour export have been urged to prioritise poverty eradication and safeguard job seekers from exploitation.

The call was made by Jimmy Tashobya, also known as Omugogozi, during the official opening of T & N Miracle Agencies offices in Rubaare, Rushenyi County, Ntungamo District.

Speaking as the guest of honour, Tashobya condemned unscrupulous companies that promise overseas employment but instead defraud desperate job seekers of their hard-earned money, leaving them frustrated and financially strained. He warned that such companies operating in Ntungamo are closely monitored and inspected to ensure they do not exploit residents.

Tashobya also criticised some parents whose children secure jobs abroad and send money home, saying the funds are sometimes misused on unproductive ventures or personal interests. He noted that many young people acquire loans from financial institutions, including SACCOs and banks, to finance their travel abroad, only for their families to misuse the remittances. He commended T & N Miracle Agencies for its commitment to creating employment opportunities aimed at reducing poverty, theft and idleness in communities.

The General Manager of T & N Miracle Agencies, Sam Tudyahabwe, said the company is duly registered with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and recognised by the government. He expressed concern over fraudsters posing as agents who scam people out of money and property under the guise of securing jobs abroad. Tudyahabwe also criticised parents who misuse funds sent by their children working overseas, saying such actions can have devastating emotional consequences for the workers.

He encouraged parents and guardians to only engage recruitment agencies that are fully licensed and recognised by the relevant government authorities.

The Rubaare Branch Manager, Derrick Bateyo, emphasised the importance of good health for those seeking employment abroad, noting that some medical conditions must be treated before candidates can qualify for overseas placements. He also decried the actions of individuals masquerading as recruitment agents who defraud members of the public, eroding trust in legitimate companies.

Bateyo called on the government to take firm action against fraudulent operators while supporting credible agencies to build public confidence among those seeking employment opportunities abroad.
