Residents of the newly created parish of Kyitojo B in Bwongyera Sub-county, Ntungamo District, decry poor social service delivery in the area.
It is reported that Kyitojo B Parish, which was recently known as Kamatabura Cell, was created due to its large population, but it has struggled with service delivery for years, especially in the education sector and with poor roads.
Speaking to our reporter, Molly Tumwebaze, a resident of Kamatabura Cell, expressed her concern about the poor service delivery in their area. She noted that despite being given a parish and four cells being created, this was not officially effected, which has affected service delivery, especially in the education sector, adding that they have no government school in their area.
She further highlighted how their leaders only remember them during political seasons and disappear afterwards, calling upon them to reconsider their community.
Another concerned citizen, Henry Tumwesigye, also echoed similar concerns, saying the area is mountainous with no government school, and pupils struggle to attend Rwankora Primary School, which is far away, making access to education difficult.
He further highlighted how he took the initiative to approach their area Member of Parliament on the same issue, but his request went unanswered, calling for improved service delivery from their leaders.
Kamuzade Guregye Gurigore, another resident of Kamatabura Cell, also confirmed to our reporter that service delivery in their area is something they only dream of, especially in the education sector. He said they have a primary school that started in the 1970s but has never gone beyond Primary Three, and although the government supports schools elsewhere, they have always been left out.
He further stated that they are considered backward and have not benefited from the NRM government, noting that leaders only come to them seeking votes.
However, speaking to the Chairperson LC5 of Ntungamo District, Sam Mucunguzi, he highlighted that creating a parish out of Kamatabura Cell was intended to enhance service delivery. He added that in the next financial year, they plan to provide the parish with a community school, which will later be considered for government status. He noted that although they cannot do everything at once, they will ensure key issues are handled, including working on roads and other services needed by the community.
