Students at Kyatoko Primary School have been urged to avoid laziness, which can jeopardize their future. The call was made on Thursday, 20th February 2026, by Rev. Edson Ampaire, Priest at Kyatoko Church of Uganda, North Kigezi Diocese, during a thanksgiving service and the award ceremony for first-grade achievers.

Rev. Ampaire referenced Proverbs 22:29, noting that “a diligent child will be celebrated, whereas a lazy child will be punished,” and encouraged students to stay focused to secure a brighter future.

Speaking at the event, Besigye Gerald, Rukungiri Municipal Council Inspector of Schools for the Southern Division and Special Needs, congratulated the municipality for attaining second position in the national rankings, just behind Ntungamo Municipality. He emphasized the vision of promoting first-grade performance in every school and eliminating failure in the coming years.

Christopher Bamanyisa Kashaija, Municipal Councilor representing Kyatoko Ward, praised the transformation of Kyatoko Primary School into a center of excellence. He called on parents to refrain from overloading children with household duties and to allow them to achieve their full potential.

Henry Turyamureeba, Chairperson of the Parents-Teacher Association (PTA), lauded the dedication of the current staff and appealed to the Municipal Education Office to retain the headteacher, Ahumuza Samuel Besimbire, whose leadership has been pivotal in transforming the school.

Headteacher Besimbire attributed the school’s success to the strong support and collaboration between parents and the Church. He also urged parents to prioritize the basic needs of their children to help them perform better academically.

During the ceremony, five first-grade achievers were recognized and awarded mattresses, basins, a dozen books, half a dozen pens, and sanitary pads for girls to support their transition into secondary education.
