Old students of Kyamakanda Central Primary School in Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District, launched the Kyamakanda Central Primary School Old Students Association on Saturday. The association aims to unite former students and support their school.

Nickson Ankunda Katurubwiita, speaking on behalf of Allan Mutemba, the chairperson of the association, explained that the group was formed to reconnect and contribute to the school’s development. They are starting with the construction of a multipurpose hall, as the school currently lacks one.

He also praised the Church of Uganda for its efforts in advancing education and combating ignorance by reintroducing schools.

Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the Buyanja Sub County Chairperson and vice chairperson of the association, criticized some government policies, particularly the one prohibiting parents from paying school fees in UPE schools. He argued that this policy negatively impacts pupils’ performance and urged the government to allow parental contributions to support schools when needed.

Solomon Arinaitwe, the Inspector of Schools for Buyanja Sub County, commended the old students for their return and support for the school. He emphasized the role of parents in supporting their children’s education and criticized the tendency to complain about school fees that contribute to better learning conditions.

Adonia Byaruhanga, the school head teacher, highlighted the challenge of inadequate facilities, with the current enrolment at 818 students from P1 to P7 and 190 in the nursery section. The multipurpose hall will help address the issue of overcrowding.

Solomon encouraged pupils to work hard, noting that the support from former students reflects their commitment to improving the school.

The construction of the multipurpose hall at Kyamakanda Central Primary School will require over 300 million shillings.
