Residents across Uganda have been called upon to demonstrate their commitment to personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness within their areas of jurisdiction.
The call was made by Kitwe Town Council LCIII Chairperson, Peter Hategyeka Munyampeta, during the Nyakayojo Sacco Kitwe Branch Customer Service Week 2025, where staff and members of the Sacco joined community leaders in cleaning streets and desilting drainage channels across Kitwe Town Council in Ntungamo District.
Hategyeka urged the public to take responsibility for maintaining sanitation and hygiene at their workplaces and business premises instead of lamenting to leaders about poor hygiene. He commended Nyakayojo Sacco Kitwe Branch Manager, Kyokusiima Bonus, and the local leadership for embracing the general cleaning exercise, noting that it will now be conducted on a monthly basis to keep the town clean and healthy.
The Town Clerk of Kitwe Town Council, Arinaitwe Benson Rwankangi, applauded the Sacco for complementing government efforts toward a cleaner environment. He emphasized that maintaining cleanliness in the community helps prevent up to 75 percent of avoidable diseases linked to poor hygiene and sanitation.
Speaking during the same event, Kyokusiima Bonus, the Nyakayojo Sacco Kitwe Branch Manager, said the initiative is part of the Sacco’s effort to promote Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles through community engagement and general cleaning.
She noted that Nyakayojo Sacco, which operates seven branches across the country, is among Uganda’s leading savings and credit cooperatives, promoting financial inclusion and supporting members through the Tweyambe Scheme to manage uncertainties.
Kyokusiima expressed gratitude to Kitwe Town Council leadership, Sacco members, and staff for their cooperation and encouraged residents to open accounts with Nyakayojo Sacco. She added that Customer Service Week (CSW) is celebrated annually worldwide during the first full week of October, which this year runs from October 7 to 11, under the theme of strengthening community relationships and customer engagement.
