Police in Kisoro District have arrested a 50-year-old woman, identified as Dusabe Anonsiata, and launched a manhunt for her son, Richard Iraguha, in connection with the alleged murder of her husband, Joram Hafashimana, 56, a resident of Gancence Cell, Kananira Central Ward in Mupaka Town Council.

The incident reportedly occurred on January 9, 2026, at around 10:30pm. According to preliminary police findings, a domestic dispute arose after the deceased reportedly gifted a piece of land to his daughter-in-law, a decision that allegedly angered his wife and son.

It is alleged that during the ensuing confrontation, the son used a panga to severely cut his father, amputating one arm and badly injuring the other. The wife is further alleged to have used the same panga to inflict fatal cuts to the victim’s head, killing him instantly.

The incident was reported by the deceased’s brother, Sikubwabo Daniel, who witnessed the attack and rushed to Mupaka Police Station. Police visited and documented the scene, recorded witness statements, and conveyed the body to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Police say the family had a long-standing domestic conflict. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
