The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer candidates for the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election have raised concerns about the increasing commercialization of voting, which they argue is negatively affecting service delivery in the district.
Candidates Grace Akifeza Ngabirano, Winfred Igraneza Mbarusha, Hellen Mbonye, and Jemimah Irankunda believe that service delivery is compromised because elected leaders often focus on recovering the money spent during their campaigns rather than addressing community needs. They are urging voters to prioritize candidates who are committed to bringing meaningful development rather than being swayed by financial incentives.
Kitentera Blessed and Nirere Fancy Brenda Mahirwe Irene added that the lack of competent leaders in Parliament is a major reason why rural service delivery struggles, as these leaders are unable to effectively represent community challenges at the national level.
Meanwhile, Rose Kabagyeni, former Woman MP for Kisoro District in the 9th Parliament, called on voters to work together and emphasized the importance of cooperatives in driving community development.
Residents from Nyabwishenya and Kirundo sub-counties in Kisoro District expressed their determination to support a candidate committed to community development, rather than one who uses financial incentives to win votes.
