Kisoro-based musician Mfitumukiza Amos, widely known as Swiggerman, has taken a courageous step by formally reaching out to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni regarding an unfulfilled commitment made during the 2016 elections.
This commitment revolved around a vehicle pledged in recognition of his mobilization anthem, “Tumwongyere,” which gained substantial popularity during the electoral period.
In a letter obtained by our reporter, Mfitumukiza detailed how “Tumwongyere” resonated deeply across Uganda during the 2016 Presidential campaigns. The song, with its captivating rhythm and powerful lyrics, captured the attention of the populace, spreading through television screens, radio waves, and campaign rallies nationwide.
President Museveni himself acknowledged Mfitumukiza’s contribution during his visit to Kisoro District on November 30, 2017, during the thanksgiving ceremony for the Former Inspector General of Police, Rtd Gen Kale Kayihura, held at Ssaza ground. It was during this event that President Museveni pledged to gift Mfitumukiza a small car as a token of appreciation for his role in producing “Tumwongyere.”
Despite the sincere promise made by the President, Mfitumukiza expresses disappointment that the commitment remains unmet to this day. He further alleges that leaders from Kisoro District have not only neglected to advocate for him but have also downplayed his efforts. He emphasizes that this situation significantly impacts his career.
