Members of the business community in Kisoro District are demanding an explanation from electricity service provider Umeme Limited regarding persistent load shedding.
They accuse Umeme of crippling their operations, citing that inconsistent power supplies in Kisoro District have disrupted the smooth running of businesses and increased nighttime insecurity.
Leo Manirudukunda, the Gisorora Parish Chief in Nyakabande Sub-county, mentions that it has become expensive to finance their operations, as they now rely on generators to print sub-county documents.
Other community members, including Denis, a tailor, and Ayebare, a welder, accuse Umeme of failing to explain the power issues and being slow to resolve them.
Geoffrey Muhinda, the Kisoro District UMEME branch manager, acknowledges the challenge and assures that they are addressing it.
