Police in Kigezi Sub-region has embarked on refresher training to equip armed and non-armed police personnel with weapon skills, especially on shooting range exercises.

The refresher training includes among others, striping, assembling, and aiming exercises plus safety precautions tips.

In Kabale district, the training ended on Saturday, with the shooting range exercise at Mayumbu cell, Kyanamira Sub County in Kabale district.

Addressing journalists on Saturday morning at Kabale Central police station, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, Elly Maate said that the training aims at refreshing and perfecting the officers so that during their day-to-day duties and operations, they can avoid misuse, mishandling, and mistakes.

Maate added that the training throughout the entire Kigezi sub-region will enable personnel to gain confidence while discharging bullets at the intended target.

He also said the training will act as an orientation to guide personnel on gun management amidst the ongoing gun shooting incidents that have caused a public outcry and caused fear among Ugandans.

According to the Kigezi region police commander, SSP Saiga Ibrahim, training started two weeks back with Kabale and it will be extended in other districts of Kanungu, Rukiga, Rukungiri, Rubanda, and Kisoro.
