On Sunday evening, Kigezi Homeboyz Football Club, hailing from Kabale District, faced their first defeat at home this season, losing 2-0 to Lugazi Football Club in the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Big League.

The match took place at Kabale Municipal Stadium, witnessing Kigezi Homeboyz FC struggling to control possession in the initial half while Lugazi FC dominated the game’s pace. Despite their efforts, Kigezi Homeboyz FC conceded a goal in the 30th minute to Ssemugugu, followed by another from Ssempala in the 44th minute, putting them at a disadvantage by halftime.

However, the second half saw Kigezi Homeboyz FC mounting a comeback, displaying a resurgence as they controlled the game and launched multiple attacks in an attempt to overturn the scoreline. Despite their spirited efforts, they were unable to find the net, resulting in their defeat.

After 25 games, Kigezi Homeboyz FC remains in 9th position with 31 points, while Lugazi FC climbs to 2nd place with 44 points. Joseph Seremba, the assistant captain of Kigezi Homeboyz FC, expressed his disappointment to our reporter, attributing the loss to what he perceived as biased officiating favoring the opponents.

Assistant Head Coach Brian Muhwezi of Kigezi Homeboyz FC echoed Seremba’s sentiments, blaming the defeat on poor officiating by the assistant referee, whom he felt did not meet the necessary standards. Muhwezi called for intervention from FUFA to address the issue.

Kigezi Homeboyz FC’s next match is against Police Football Club on May 26th, 2024, at Kavumba Recreation Centre in Wakiso District.
