As Kigezi High School Primary commemorates its centenary milestone, Isaac Rukandema, a distinguished alumnus, has donated a complete Brass Band to the school.

Isaac Rukandema, a former aspirant for the position of Member of Parliament in Kabale Municipality, led a successful fundraising campaign to acquire the Brass Band, which is a pivotal part of the school’s centenary festivities, as confirmed by the school’s administration.

Sam Tindimwebwa Kanyamukiza, the Publicity Secretary for the Centenary Celebrations, explained that the alumni, known as the “Old Boys”, initiated the Brass Band Project as the inaugural event to mark Kigezi High School’s remarkable 100-year journey.

Remarkably, Rukandema generously contributed a sum of Shillings 20 million, covering the entire cost of the equipment.

This new Brass Band replaces the traditional band equipment that had been the school’s iconic symbol for many decades.

During the official handover of the brand-new equipment at the school premises, Reverend Canon Milton Nkurunungi, the Diocese of Kigezi Secretary, disclosed that the inclusion of the Brass Band in the school was part of Bishop Gaddie Akanjuna’s Charge.

The bishop had pledged to foster the Boys Brigade during his consecration ceremony on May 29, 2022.

Meanwhile, Isaac Mucunguzi Rushoga, the Chairperson of Northern Division LC.3, who played a pivotal role in bringing Rukandema’s attention to the ongoing Brass Band fundraising campaign.

Kigezi High School Primary, established in 1920, is jointly celebrating its century of existence alongside Kigezi High School (Secondary), which it gave birth to in 1946.

The pinnacle of these celebrations is scheduled for this Saturday, with prominent alumni such as Former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and State Minister of Industry David Bahati among the distinguished guests among others expected to attend the ceremony.

Grateful to God for having studied at this great school, I treasure memories of the parade match every Friday in the field led by the Boys’ Brigade band. Mr. David Kwizera was the Headteacher.
