Christians have been encouraged to deepen their love for Jesus Christ, turn away from sin, and embrace repentance and renewed hope as they marked this year’s Easter celebrations.

The message was delivered by the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, during a solemn Easter Sunday service at St. Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama. He reminded the congregation that Easter remains a central pillar of the Christian faith, symbolizing the sacrifice of Jesus Christ through His crucifixion for the salvation of humanity.

In his sermon, Bishop Akanjuna urged believers to reflect on the suffering and sacrifice of Christ on the cross and to respond by living righteous lives. He emphasized the importance of turning away from sinful behavior and aligning one’s life with Christian teachings.

He observed that the world is increasingly drifting away from godly values, calling for a renewed commitment to spiritual growth and a return to God. According to the bishop, genuine repentance is key to transformation and living a meaningful Christian life.

Highlighting the resurrection of Jesus Christ, he said it offers believers hope and reassurance that no situation is beyond God’s power. He encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith, even during difficult times, noting that the resurrection signifies victory after suffering.

Bishop Akanjuna also called on believers to move forward from past mistakes and embrace a future guided by faith, purpose, and renewed determination. He described Christ’s love as sacrificial and urged Christians to demonstrate that same love through kindness, generosity, and support for the less privileged.

He further advised Christians to avoid unnecessary conflicts and to entrust their struggles to Jesus Christ, who remains the ultimate source of peace and protection for those who trust in Him.

Similarly, the retired Bishop Emeritus of Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. George William Rukirande, delivered a related message while preaching at All Saints Church in Kabale Municipality. He stressed the importance of repentance and reminded believers that Christ died for their sins, calling on them to live lives that reflect gratitude and spiritual transformation.

Rt. Rev. Rukirande encouraged Christians to use the Easter season as a time to renew their commitment to God through prayer and righteous living.

Across Kabale, Easter celebrations were marked by large congregations as Christians gathered in churches to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Religious leaders used the occasion to promote messages of unity, moral integrity, and renewed faith as essential for both personal and community development.

As the celebrations came to a close, believers were reminded that Easter is not only a time for reflection, but also a call to action, challenging them to live according to the teachings of Christ and become agents of positive change in society.
