Police in Rukungiri are investigating a fatal road accident that occurred on Sunday, April 5, 2026, along the Rukungiri–Kihihi road in Bugangari Sub-county.

According to police, the incident happened at around 4:00 p.m. at Kakirago II Cell in Bugangari Parish. It is alleged that a 26-year-old boda boda rider, Rogers Abisinguza, a resident of Rumira Cell in Bugangari Sub-county, was riding a motorcycle (registration number UFS 906W) from Rukungiri town heading toward Kihihi.

Upon reaching Kakirago, the rider reportedly knocked a pedestrian, John Bosco Byaruhanga, aged 28, who was walking along the roadside on the left side of the carriageway. The impact caused the rider to die on the spot.

The pedestrian sustained injuries and was rushed to Bagahwe Health Facility, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Police visited, documented, and cleared the scene of the accident. The body of the deceased was taken to Bugangari Health Centre IV mortuary pending a postmortem examination. The motorcycle involved in the crash has been impounded at the police yard for inspection.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
