The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has inaugurated the newly appointed Provincial Kingdom Development Organ (KIDO) Committee and charged them with championing the Church’s self-sustainability agenda.

The inaugural meeting took place today morning at the Provincial Secretariat in Namirembe.

“I thank God for choosing you. He has chosen you at this time when we are focusing on self-sustainability. A time when the Church is under attack from those promoting immorality. Your task ahead is to ensure that the Church is self-sustainable.” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

He commended KIDO for introducing the health insurance scheme which he said has benefitted a lot of people and encouraged Christians to join massively.

“I am a beneficiary of the KIDO Health insurance scheme. When my wife fell sick and was taken to Germany for medical attention, this scheme helped me a lot. I encourage all our Bishops, Clergy and all the laity to join it. The testimonies I have so far heard are very positive.” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

He added, “The Church can only be strong if we ensure that tools for self-sustainability especially health insurance, education, financial independence among others are established.”

The newly inaugurated committee is chaired by Nakasero Hospital’s Managing Director, Lay Canon Dr Ben Mbonye and is comprised of Rev. Prof. Dr. Sam Luboga, the Chairperson of the Education Service Commission; Mr. Sam Atul, the Mayor of Lira City and Rev. Canon Henry Segawa, the Diocesan Secretary of Namirembe Diocese.

Others are Rev. Canon Geoffrey Byarugaba, the Provincial Chairman of the House of Clergy, Ven. Moses Munaku Kaama of Mukono Diocese, Mr. Joachim Namala and other two members that are yet to be appointed.

The Provincial Secretary, Rev. Canon William Ongeng said that the KIDO Committee will provide strategic oversight and guidance in the performance of KIDO and its strategic implementation.

“KIDO Committee is mandated with growing the KIDO program to finance the strategic plan areas by collectively mobilizing funds to improve on the financial status of the Church and the social-economic status of the parishioners and creatively developing programs that will improve on their livelihood in the areas of finance, health and education.” Canon Ongeng said.
