Electricity shortages in Kazaza cell, Kamahuri parish, Rugarama North, Ntungamo district have left residents stranded in total darkness, running no serious businesses to develop themselves.

It is reported the neighboring subcounty has electricity services but theirs (Rugarama North) has never seen even a pole, relying on empty promises from their leaders.

Speaking to our reporter, Chairperson LC1 Kazaza cell, Gaton Yoramu, said it’s true electricity services are not evident in Kazaza cell, saying they could have a lot to do with electricity but are being let down.

He further said their voting for leaders is of no use regarding service delivery in the area, as they report to them their needs but receive none, saying the salons in their area depend on solar power which is not effective during the rainy season.

Francis Muwhezi, a resident of Kazaza cell, speaking on the same, said this has been their usual challenge for years now, saying the subcounties near them have electricity services but Rugarama North was left unattended to.

He further said the solar panels become dim and less effective during the rainy season, leaving them without where to charge their phones from and giving thieves an advantage to fulfill their desires.

Steven Nuwamanya Tanasi, a resident of the same, said they are disturbed with the challenge, saying they have never seen a pole and this has slowed development in the area as they could start up developmental projects.

He highlighted that they’re in total darkness with solar panels that go dim and become less effective especially in the rainy season, saying this has highly promoted theft in the area, calling for government intervention through their leaders.

However, speaking to the Chairperson LC5 Ntungamo district, Sam Mucunguzi confirmed to our reporter that they were asked by the government to have all the cells in the district without electricity services mapped, and UEDCL authorities are doing mapping in all the cells, urging people to be patient as the authorities do their work.
