Residents from Kayungwe Parish in Kayungwe Sub-county, Kanungu District, are decrying the lack of access to clean and safe water in their area.

It is reported that these residents have repeatedly raised the issue with their leaders, but they have never received a clear response.

Robert Rabaaro, a resident of Kayungwe, said they have faced this challenge for many years, and their leaders seem unconcerned. He added that they have lost hope in their leaders since the area lacks a borehole or a protected well where they can access clean water.

Steven Byamukama, also a resident of the area, said they rely on unsafe water from streams, which they share with animals.

He further noted that although leaders have made several promises, nothing has been done to address the situation. Steven revealed that due to the poor water sources, residents are contracting waterborne diseases such as typhoid, putting their lives at risk.

According to Gaston Bataringaya, the LC3 Chairperson of Kayungwe Sub-county, he is aware of the challenge. He comforted residents by assuring them that the available water sources are set to be renovated and extended to the affected areas. He added that this work will be completed within three months.
