Parents and teachers at Kasheshe Primary School in Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri District, have been encouraged to work together to enhance the learning environment and improve students’ academic performance.
This call was made by Leoh Twesigye, the chairperson of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), during a sensitization visit aimed at fostering a positive relationship between parents, teachers, and students.
Leoh emphasized that a significant gap often exists between parents and teachers, which negatively impacts student performance. He urged parents to be more proactive in understanding the importance of parent-teacher collaboration, as it plays a critical role in both academic performance and student discipline. He highlighted that while teachers have a unique role in creating a conducive learning environment, their efforts must be supported by parents. He further encouraged parents to take action when they feel their children are not receiving quality education, emphasizing that failing to intervene would mean neglecting their responsibilities.
In his remarks, Twebaze Darius, the head teacher of Kasheshe Primary School, praised the parents for attending the sensitization session in large numbers and encouraged them to continue supporting this initiative. He noted that the session aimed to bridge the gap between parents, students, and teachers, fostering positive relationships that could lead to improved academic outcomes. Darius underscored the importance of parents engaging with teachers to discuss their children’s progress and find ways to support areas where the students may be struggling.
Darius pointed out that this initiative was being held for the first time at the school and urged parents to embrace it wholeheartedly. He called on those who were unable to attend the event to reconsider their priorities and show greater commitment to their children’s education. He also challenged parents to fulfill their responsibilities by providing necessary scholastic materials and actively monitoring their children’s education to ensure they receive the best possible support.
A group of parents, including Nyebaza Holder, Peter Turyahikayo, and Emmanuel Gumisiriza, welcomed the initiative and suggested that the school management organize such events annually. They highlighted the importance of parent-teacher relationships in understanding students’ weaknesses and finding effective solutions. The parents also commended the head teacher, Mr. Darius, for introducing the initiative and pledged their support in guiding their children toward better discipline and academic achievement. They called on fellow parents to embrace the program for the benefit of the school and their children’s academic progress.
