Parents at Kashenyi Senior Secondary School have on Saturday received 303 bags of cement to support the recently launched project of constructing a three-storied dormitory for girls.

The surprise donation came during the school’s PTA Annual General Meeting 2025, when parents were elated to learn that the school’s alumni had contributed cement to support the construction works.

According to Rev. Ivan Mwongyera, the school head teacher, the current enrollment of 1100 students has caused overcrowding, highlighting the urgent need for additional dormitory space.

He revealed that the construction, which is still at foundation level, requires UGX 670 million to be completed. He urged parents to cooperate and ensure that the work is finished.

Rev. Mwongyera also praised the alumni for their donation of 303 bags of cement, appealing to all education lovers to come forward and support the project. Once completed, the dormitory will provide accommodation for young Ugandans.

He further noted challenges regarding limited classrooms, pointing out that some students are currently studying under tents—an environment unsuitable for learners, especially those with health conditions such as allergies and asthma.

Aheebwa Clara, representative of the old students at the school’s Board of Governors, expressed commitment from alumni to support their alma mater. She emphasized that their association aims to support the school in infrastructure, academic standards, and other key areas.

Clara stressed the importance of education, challenging parents to actively support their children’s studies to nurture responsible Ugandans in the future.

Davis Mutabanura, chairperson of the PTA, lauded the alumni for their contribution, noting that their support will strengthen the parents’ efforts in constructing the much-needed girls’ dormitories.
