Kanungu Town Council proposes a Shs 295.6 million budget for the financial year 2026/2027.

In a Town Council meeting on 7th April 2026, at the Town Council Hall in Kanungu Town Council, the Speaker, Diana Bitamba, unveiled a draft budget of Shs 295,674,056 for the financial year 2026/2027.

The council meeting was attended by Mr. Mbabazi Emmanuel from the Ministry of Finance, the Town Council Mayor, Hon. Karabenda Godfrey, the Town Clerk, Akankwasa Moses, councillors, and other stakeholders.

In his remarks, the Town Council Mayor, Hon. Karabenda Godfrey, noted that the draft budget has been given to councillors for review and is expected to be approved in the next council meeting. He therefore urged councillors to navigate through the budget and reach out to the concerned authorities in case of any recommendations to avoid delays during approval.

The works and technical services department took the lion’s share with Shs 115.5 million, equivalent to 39%, followed by the administration department with Shs 68.6 million, equivalent to 23%.

Other allocations included the finance department with Shs 17.7 million, health and environment department with Shs 36.5 million, internal audit with Shs 11.1 million, urban councils with Shs 20.1 million, production and marketing with Shs 4.6 million, gender and community development with Shs 5.4 million, planning with Shs 3.1 million, education services with Shs 3.0 million, and finally natural resources with Shs 0.9 million.

The councillors, together with other officials, started by inspecting the new council building that is under construction using Shs 200 million, a grant from the Ministry of Finance. Best-performing councillors were awarded certificates as a token of appreciation.
