Kanungu Town Council, through Mayor Karabenda Godfrey, has applauded the Ministry of Finance for a 200 million grant that has helped to support the construction of a new town council building.
Speaking on Wednesday in a council meeting held at the town council headquarters in Kanungu Town Council, Mayor Karabenda Godfrey expressed gratitude to the government, through the Ministry of Finance, for supporting the council with 200 million, which is helping in the construction of the new council building.
Karabenda revealed that while the town council plans to advance to municipality level, the new building is expected to accommodate more offices, helping to reduce pressure and congestion on the old building. Moreover, he acknowledged that the first floor has been completed and is ready for use.
However, the mayor noted that 200 million has helped to complete the first phase of the building and therefore stressed that the council is compiling reports and plans to write to the Ministry of Finance to support them with an additional 500 million, as previously requested, to help in the completion of the building.
Meanwhile, Mbabazi Emmanuel from the Ministry of Finance, who also attended the meeting, advised the town council authorities to compile reports and accountability for the completed work, reaffirming that the ministry will be ready to support them as long as the money is effectively used.
The new building is still under construction and is expected to cost over 700 million.
