Police in Kanungu have arrested a secondary school teacher, Brian Akampurira, 30, following allegations of aggravated defilement involving a 13-year-old girl. The incident, which has shocked the community in Kihihi Town Council, reportedly occurred on Sunday, October 12, 2025, according to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Maate Elly.
Akampurira, a resident of Ndeba cell, Kihihi, is alleged to have encountered the victim near Bright Future Primary School around 10:00 AM while she was on her way to prayers. Police reports suggest the suspect used coercion to take the girl into a nearby eucalyptus forest where the alleged assault took place. Despite the victim raising an alarm, the isolated location prevented anyone from coming to her immediate aid, and she was reportedly threatened against reporting the incident.
The case came to light when the brave young girl, on her way home, sought help from a good samaritan who promptly took her to Kihihi Police Station. In a remarkable turn of events, the suspect, Brian Akampurira, reportedly arrived at the station shortly after the victim.
“The victim was at the station recording a statement when she immediately identified the suspect,” said ASP Maate Elly. The officer confirmed that Akampurira was swiftly arrested and charged with aggravated defilement.
Police have stated that inquiries are underway, and upon their completion, the suspect will be produced before the courts of law to answer the charges. Authorities are commending the victim for her courage in reporting the incident and are urging the public to be vigilant and report any crimes against children immediately.
“We assure the public that we are treating this case with the utmost seriousness,” ASP Maate Elly added.
