Police in Kanungu District have launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a 22-year-old man whose lifeless body was discovered early Saturday morning.
The deceased, identified as Agaba James, a resident of Kayenje cell, Mashaku parish in Nyamirama Sub-county, was found under a tree in Mukabasa cell with visible facial injuries and strangulation marks around his neck.
According to preliminary reports, Agaba left his home on Friday evening at around 7:00 p.m., telling his wife, Ashaba Blair, that he was heading to Mr. Katsigazi’s coffee milling machine. He never returned. The shocking news of his death came the next morning when his body was discovered lying under a tree.
Local police responded swiftly to the alert and visited the scene accompanied by a sniffer dog, which led investigators to a nearby bar owned by one Niwagaba Rumecho. Rumecho has since been arrested to aid in the ongoing investigations.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said inquiries are underway to establish the exact circumstances that led to Agaba’s tragic death.
Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
