Kanungu district leaders are puzzled about the Emergence of cracks along the newly constructed Kanungu-Kihihi-Rukungiri road even before the completion of construction works.
Construction of the 78.5kilometer road that connects to the Uganda-Democratic Republic of Congo border of Ishasha is cost 118 billion Shillings and is being undertaken by the China Henan International Corporation (CHICO).
Leaders and locals are now protesting after cracks started emerging in the already tarmacked spots in Kanungu district.

According to locals and leaders, the cracks are visible at Kinyashohera in Nyamwegabira sub-county, Kihihi, Nyamirama, and Kanyantorogo sub-counties.
They also accuse the contractor of poorly working on the drainage system especially installing culverts.

Sam Kajojo Arineitwe, Kanungu LCV Chairperson wants the contractor to explain the exact cause of the cracks and also repair the defects in all the affected areas.
Gad Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe, Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner who toured the affected areas this week accuses the contractor of using expired tar while tarmacking the road.
Rugaaju says that in addition to cracks on the road, many of the culverts are already clogged due to poor installation.
Efforts to get a comment from CHICO officials were futile
