Kajara People’s SACCO has commissioned its first-ever purpose-built bank structure in Ntungamo Municipality, marking a major milestone in its 23 years of service. The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, was combined with a Christmas season appreciation event where the SACCO rewarded its best-performing members for their commitment and productivity in 2025.
Founded in 2002 in Rwashameire Town Council, where its main branch remains, the 22-year-old SACCO has steadily grown its footprint across the region. The newly commissioned building, constructed in a modern banking format along the Ntungamo–Kabale highway, is the SACCO’s first permanent structure of its kind.
During the ceremony, the Board Chairperson, Maj. Gen. Jim Willis Byarugaba, expressed gratitude to members for their continued trust and support, crediting them for the SACCO’s growth and stability. He noted that Kajara People’s SACCO has played a key role in improving livelihoods by providing accessible loans and safe savings services to communities within and beyond Ntungamo District.
Maj. Gen. Byarugaba added that the SACCO is close to operating five branches and encouraged residents from Ntungamo and neighboring districts to join. He highlighted several member-focused products, including water tank financing, school fees loans, agricultural loans, business loans, building loans, and boda boda financing, some of which have recently had their interest rates reduced to make them more affordable.
The Ntungamo Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Yona Musinguzi, together with the Ntungamo District Commercial Officer, Mr. Nyakatuha Godfrey—who is also a SACCO member—praised Kajara People’s SACCO for its positive impact on income generation and local development. They noted that the SACCO has supported many residents within and outside the district, contributing significantly to household incomes and economic growth. They urged more people to join the SACCO to benefit from safe savings and loans offered at favorable interest rates.
The SACCO Manager, Mr. Akankwaasa Yusufu, also expressed appreciation to members for their trust and loyalty over the past 23 years. He said the newly commissioned Ntungamo branch building was made possible by members’ commitment and faith in the institution. He emphasized that the SACCO’s growth is a direct result of member participation and cooperation.
Mr. Akankwaasa further called on residents who are not yet members to join Kajara People’s SACCO, save their money, and access development-oriented loans at low interest rates. He noted that the SACCO operates branches in Rwashameire Town Council, Ntungamo Town, Bwanga Omukiyenje in Rukungiri, Kafunjo–Mirama, and a newly opened outreach in Rwamabondo Sub-county.
The commissioning of the Ntungamo bank building stands as a testament to Kajara People’s SACCO’s steady growth and its commitment to promoting financial inclusion, income generation, and sustainable development in the region.
