With a strong display of democratic engagement, Members of Parliament are today convening to deliberate on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026, demonstrating the vibrancy of Uganda’s parliamentary process.
The ruling NRM party Members of Parliament held a strategic caucus meeting at the Prime Minister’s conference hall to build consensus and refine their approach to the important legislation currently on the Order Paper. Similarly, the opposition bloc, led by Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, gathered at Parliament to harmonize their positions, underscoring a shared commitment to thoroughly examining the bill.
Security arrangements around Parliament have been enhanced as a standard precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all lawmakers and smooth proceedings. Minister of State for National Guidance Godfrey Kabyanga reassured the public that the deployments are routine and there is no cause for alarm.
Ssenyonyi affirmed that the opposition is fully prepared to engage robustly in what he described as a “battle of ideas,” promising a thoughtful and substantive contribution to the debate.
This active participation from both sides of the House reflects the healthy democratic spirit in which critical national matters are handled, with all parties focused on advancing Uganda’s interests through dialogue and legislative diligence.
