Residents of Kahoko Parish in Nyakagyeme Sub-County, Rukungiri District, are appealing to district authorities to construct a road connecting Omukaterero to Kashegu-Kahoko to improve transportation in the area.
Speaking to our reporter, Magulu Emmanuel, a boda boda rider and resident of Kahoko Parish, explained that the poor condition of the road makes it difficult for residents to access essential services. He noted that schoolchildren must travel long distances to reach Kahoko Primary School, and having a better road would make their journey to school much shorter and more convenient.
Asiimwe Francis, another resident of Kahoko Parish, highlighted the safety concerns caused by the road’s current state, especially a dangerous hole near Kahoko Primary School. He emphasized that the road has been in disrepair for a long time, despite numerous complaints to the authorities, who have yet to take action.
He urged district engineers to address their concerns and construct the road to facilitate residents’ daily activities.
Barugahare Johnson, the area councilor for Kahoko Parish and vice chairman of Nyakagyeme Sub-County, noted that residents struggle to transport their harvests to different markets. The poor road conditions force them to use longer routes, which incur higher transportation costs. He mentioned that residents are considering collecting money among themselves to construct the road, although they worry about whether they will be able to raise enough funds.
Barugahare called on the relevant authorities to prioritize the road’s construction, which would greatly improve access to services and facilitate transportation in the community.
