The persistent and longstanding challenge of electricity shortages has forced residents of Kachenche Parish, Nyakyishenyi Subcounty, to call for government intervention during this term of office.

Speaking to our reporter, the Vice Chairperson LC1 of Kachenche Cell, Baguma Expedito, revealed that they urgently need electricity services as one way of developing their area and curbing the rising theft cases, as thieves take advantage of the darkness at night.

Baguma further highlighted that they lack places to charge their phones and are unable to start up small businesses in the area. He called upon the government to consider them, especially by beginning with electricity services, after which other developments will follow.

Another resident from Kachenche Cell, Robert Aryanjuna Ntare, also revealed that generally they do not have electricity, as only about two or three families were lucky enough to get connected. This has greatly slowed development in terms of starting up projects like welding and salons.

He further noted that many people would wish to have electricity and have the capability of paying the bills. He said they have written letters requesting electricity services, but all in vain, calling upon their leaders to at least include them in the plan this time around.

However, speaking on the matter, the Chairperson LC3 of Nyakyishenyi Subcounty, Wednesday Twinomujuni, highlighted that it is a big concern for the Kachenche community and other areas that do not have access to electricity services. He called for patience from the community, noting that the new leadership, specifically himself, understands the problems of the people of Nyakyishenyi and will raise the matter with UEDCL and top leadership to have it rectified.
