The territorial police in Rubanda District are investigating a suspected suicide involving a 22-year-old Kabale University student, Mugarura Victor.
According to police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the deceased, a resident of Hamurara cell, Nyamiyaga ward in Bubare Town Council, allegedly took his own life by hanging himself with a rope inside his bedroom on the evening of July 24, 2025.
It is reported that Victor had taken his mother’s phone and disappeared earlier in the day, prompting family members to search for him. His sister later called the phone and heard it ringing inside Victor’s room. Upon opening the door, she found his body hanging above his bed.
Police responded to the scene, conducted examinations, and recovered a rope believed to have been used in the suicide. Suspected suicide notes were also found beside the body, and statements from relevant witnesses have been recorded.
ASP Maate urged the public to seek help from local leaders and authorities when dealing with personal issues instead of resorting to suicide, noting that such actions do not solve underlying problems.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
