Kabale University celebrated its ninth graduation ceremony today, awarding degrees to 1,671 students from various academic disciplines at its campus on Kikungiri Hill in Kabale Municipality. The ceremony also saw the university confer its first-ever Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees on two candidates, marking a historic milestone for the institution as a public university.

Prof. George Mondo Kagonyera, the Chancellor of Kabale University and Chief Guest at the event, addressed the graduates and their families. He encouraged parents to continue investing in their children’s education, emphasizing that knowledge is their most valuable asset. Prof. Kagonyera also expressed concerns about the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the job market. He highlighted the need for ongoing research to address the challenges posed by AI-driven automation.

The Chancellor urged the graduates to remain open to various job opportunities, advising them not to limit themselves to white-collar roles. “Be willing to take on any work, even outside your formal qualifications,” he stated, encouraging graduates to continue their studies and adapt to changing job landscapes.

Hon. Adson Kakuru, Chairperson of the University Council, echoed calls for increased government funding to meet the growing demands of student enrollment and staffing needs. He urged parents to continue guiding their children post-graduation and encouraged the graduates to apply their acquired knowledge for the betterment of their communities.

In her remarks, Kabale University Vice Chancellor Prof. Joy Kwesiga reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing academic excellence by expanding its program offerings. She announced the introduction of new postgraduate programs, including the Master of Science in Accounting and Finance and the Master of Science in Civil Engineering, to further enhance the university’s academic portfolio.

The event concluded with a celebratory atmosphere, marking yet another significant chapter in Kabale University’s journey as an institution of higher learning dedicated to producing skilled graduates ready to contribute to their communities and the nation.
