The Kabale District Returning Officer, Aisha Nansubuga, has called on all political candidates to strictly adhere to Electoral Commission (EC) guidelines throughout the campaign period to ensure peaceful and orderly elections.

Speaking to the press after a campaign harmonization meeting held at Rukiiko Hall in Kabale Municipality, Nansubuga said the meeting aimed at addressing and aligning key issues related to campaign programs for candidates contesting for MP, LC5, and mayoral positions in Kabale District.

She emphasized that all candidates must follow the EC’s stipulated campaign schedules, avoid clashes, and desist from fundraising activities in churches or other social functions during campaigns. Nansubuga also urged candidates with private security personnel to register and have them verified by the district security committee to prevent misunderstandings with security agencies.

Independent candidate for the Kabale Municipality MP seat, Dan Nabasa Musinguzi, expressed optimism that the resolutions from the meeting would be respected by all parties. He, however, appealed to the police to act within the EC guidelines and ensure that campaign activities are not disrupted. Musinguzi also asked authorities to take action against individuals vandalizing campaign posters in the municipality.

Grace Akunda Bekunda Bwesigye, an independent candidate for the Kabale District Woman MP seat, described the meeting as peaceful and productive. She expressed hope that the agreed-upon resolutions would be implemented and called for equal treatment of all candidates by law enforcement during campaigns.

Alexander Kyokwijuka, an independent candidate for the Ndorwa County East parliamentary seat, praised the Electoral Commission for organizing the harmonization meeting, saying it was vital for promoting fair and peaceful elections. He commended security officials for pledging to provide a level playing field for all contenders.

Meanwhile, Alex Edgar Muhwezi, another independent candidate for the Kabale Municipality MP seat, voiced concern over the limited civic education among voters ahead of the 2026 General Elections. He urged the Electoral Commission to intensify civic education campaigns to enhance voter awareness and participation.
