Godfrey Nyakahuma, the Resident District Commissioner of Kabale, has urged all schools in the district to consistently engage in patriotism training. He stressed that such initiatives are crucial in maintaining discipline among students, thus reducing instances of unrest in schools.

Nyakahuma made this plea on Saturday while serving as the guest of honor at the commencement of a one-week patriotism training session for both teachers and students at Kigezi High School Senior Northern Division, located in Kabale Municipality. He underscored the significance of these training sessions in instilling good discipline and promoting proper social conduct, which he deemed fundamental aspects of patriotism.

He encouraged the students and teachers of Kigezi High School to actively participate in the training, highlighting its future benefits. Nyakahuma emphasized that the training would help sharpen students’ mindsets, fostering self-love, patriotism, and a readiness to contribute to the nation.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the training would enable participants to develop an appreciation for Uganda’s rich natural resources, which are vital for the country’s economic advancement.

Abraham Kampurira, the headteacher of Kigezi High School, expressed gratitude to the Patriotism Secretariat for dispatching instructors to conduct the course at the school. He acknowledged that the government mandates such programs for all secondary schools, making it imperative for every student to partake in them. Kampurira stressed that the training aims to educate students about the nation’s history and facilitate a shift in mindset.

Patriotism initiatives in Uganda were formally introduced by President Yoweri Museveni, beginning around 2009, with the primary objective of instilling a sense of national pride and loyalty among the youth.
