The territorial police in Kabale District have launched investigations into the mysterious killing of a businessman, Geoffrey Rutambira, a resident of Kakooko Village, Bukoora Parish in Kitumba Sub-county. The incident occurred on the night of 22nd November 2025 at Kabumba Village.
According to preliminary reports, at around 10:00pm, a resident identified as Muhwezi Nelson was returning from Kakooko, where he had gone to demand money from a local debtor, when he noticed light coming from a eucalyptus forest along the roadside. Fearing for his safety, he initially ignored the sight but later built the courage to check. On approaching the spot, he discovered a lifeless body, which he identified as that of elder Rutambira.
Muhwezi alerted a neighbour, Turyahewa Sharon, who confirmed the tragic incident and promptly informed Kabale Central Police Station.
A team from Kabale CPS, accompanied by the K-9 Unit, visited and documented the scene. However, despite deploying a police dog to aid in tracking the suspect(s), efforts were hampered as the crime scene had been tampered with by locals who arrived earlier.
The body was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination conducted by the Regional Police Surgeon. It has since been handed over to the family for burial.
Police spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, ASP Maate Elly, confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the assailant(s). He urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
