Kabale Regional Referral Hospital is grappling with five unclaimed bodies, one of which has remained in the hospital mortuary for nearly nine months in Kabale District. The hospital director, Dr. John Philbert Nyeko, disclosed that the first body has been in the mortuary for eight months and three weeks, the second for four months and three weeks, the third for three months, the fourth for one month and two weeks, and the fifth for one month and one week.

Dr. Nyeko stated that three of the deceased are from Kabale Municipality, while the other two are from Kabale District Local Government. He expressed concern that the extended stay of these bodies is straining the hospital’s limited mortuary capacity.

The hospital has informed the relevant authorities and is awaiting their intervention.

Meanwhile, Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Nyakahuma acknowledged the issue but pointed out an additional challenge: the local cemetery has run out of burial space for unclaimed bodies.
