The local government of Kabale District on Thursday concluded the Uganda Multisectoral Food Security and Nutrition project by presenting essential items to the headteachers of schools that had benefited from the initiative. The project, initiated in the 2016/17 financial year, was originally implemented in 100 primary schools, with 61 in Kabale and 39 in Rukiga district before the latter was separated.

Each school received valuable items, including two wash tanks, a dust bin, and a stainless-steel tank for drinking water, collectively valued at millions of shillings. Jennifer Twebaze, the senior fisheries officer for Kabale District and the project focal person, highlighted that these items were procured under the WASH component, aimed at enhancing sanitation and hygiene in the beneficiary schools. Twebaze urged school heads to ensure the sustainability of the project, even with the conclusion of its funding.ne

Robert Ampeire, the senior Education officer for Kabale District, expressed concern during their routine school visits, noting that many WASH items provided during the Covid-19 period were left unused. He emphasized the importance of putting these items to proper use.

Miria Akankwasa Tugume, the Vice Chairperson of Kabale District, presided over the item handover and expressed optimism that the donated items would significantly contribute to improving sanitation and hygiene in schools as a crucial measure in disease prevention.
