The judgment in a case where a Rukungiri District LC5 Chairperson contestant is accused of stealing UGX 440 million belonging to former Rubabo County Member of Parliament Mary Paula Turyahikayo and her husband, Eng. Godfrey Rwihunga Turyahikayo, has flopped for the third time due to the absence of the trial magistrate.

Angello Twinomuhangi Bagorogoza, who is contesting for the Rukungiri District LC5 Chairperson seat on an independent ticket, is charged with one count of theft of UGX 440 million.

Prosecution contends that between October 2020 and February 2021, at Centenary Bank Kabale branch, the accused stole the money, which was meant for the purchase of land at Rwakaraba, Plot 35, Block 18, on behalf of the MP’s family.

The judgment reading had been scheduled for today by the trial magistrate, Milly Chandiru, following the dismissal by the Kabale High Court of a miscellaneous application filed by Twinomuhangi (Application No. 1 of 2025). In the application, he had sought to halt the Grade One Magistrate’s Court proceedings, have them reviewed, and for the case to be heard afresh by another judicial officer.

However, the trial magistrate, Milly Chandiru, who serves as a Kabale Grade One Magistrate, was absent as she is currently on study leave. The judgment was expected to be delivered by Kabale Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha, but the trial magistrate had not yet sent in the judgment.

The judgment has now been rescheduled to 16th October 2025, when it will be delivered by Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha.
