The Former Rubanda East County Member of Parliament aspirant, Counsel Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema, has urged the public to embrace the practice of saving to combat poverty at the household level.

Counsel Biryabarema made these remarks during an event held on Sunday evening at Rwere Primary School in Rwere Village, Bubaare Town Council, Rubanda East County. He was officiating at the distribution of livestock, including hens, goats, and pigs, among other items, to the Rwere Jogo Foundation.

During his address, Counsel Biryabarema highlighted that the Team Jogo Foundation aligns with the national Parish Development Model program, which is dedicated to eliminating poverty among 39 percent of households across the country.

Notably, this group stands as one of the largest saving groups in Rubanda District, boasting over 2000 members.

He encouraged members to shift their mindset, advocating for saving money through formal channels instead of keeping it at home, thereby reducing the risk of theft.

Counsel Biryabarema stressed that the foundation has established a central collection account to ensure the safety of people’s savings.

He also cautioned members to remain vigilant against individuals sent by others to disrupt and steal from the group, urging the leadership of Team Jogo Foundation to maintain trustworthiness in managing the members’ savings.

Martin Muhumuza, the chairman of the Rwere Jogo Foundation, shared that they have already distributed 101 hens, ten pigs, and three goats among the group’s 90 members.

This event signifies a significant step toward poverty eradication in Rubanda East County, with the hope that increased savings and financial literacy will pave the way for a brighter future for its residents.
