Immaculate Heart Girls Secondary School Nyakibale in Rukungiri Municipality on Saturday won the Rukungiri District Music, Dance, and Drama competitions held at River Side Hotel in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
The competitions drew participants from only 3 schools which included Rwabukoba Secondary School from Ruhinda Sub County, Immaculate Heart Girls Secondary School Nyakibale from Rukungiri Municipality, and St Jerome Senior Secondary School Ndama from Kebisoni Sub County.
Immaculate Heart Girls won with 874 points followed by St Jerome Senior Secondary School with 847 points and Rwabukoba Secondary School with 545 points.
The Chairperson of Rukungiri Association of Secondary School Head Teachers of Uganda(ASSHU) who is also the head teacher of Kinyasano Girls High School Allen Kiyasimiire who was the chief guest expressed concern over the low turn up of schools which she attributed to the impact of COVID-19 noting that the District has over 46 Secondary Schools both government aided and private but only 3 turned up.
She further called on head teachers to embrace Music, Dance, and Drama in their Schools since it is a directive from the Ministry of Education and Sports to promote talent among the students.
The Rukungiri District chairperson of Debate and Music, Dance, and Drama also Headteacher of Rwabukoba Secondary School Erick Sabiiti commended the cooperation exhibited by the participants and appealed to the head teachers to prioritize an envelope for MDD in their budget adding that the 3 schools will represent the district at region and they expect good performance.
The judges of the day Lilian Nuwamanya former Music, Dance, and Drama teacher at Bweranyangi Girls High School and expert retired Rev Mutogenda revealed that the students had passion but lacked exposure.
