It was a joyous moment as the community of Immaculate Heart Girls’ School Nyakibale bid farewell to Sr. Mary Gladys Kachope Amooti, who has served the school since 2006. She was commended for her tremendous support and contributions towards the school’s development.
Sr. Sabina Tumusiime hailed Sr. Kachope for her outstanding leadership, which has elevated the school to a higher level. She described her as a visionary leader whose achievements have transformed Immaculate Heart Girls’ School into an institution of excellence.
She further noted that, under Sr. Kachope’s leadership, the school’s performance in both UCE and UACE has improved significantly year after year. This academic excellence has attracted students from within Rukungiri and beyond.
In addition to academic achievements, Sr. Sabina highlighted other notable accomplishments of Sr. Kachope, including infrastructural development and fostering discipline among both students and teachers.
During his sermon, Monsignor John Vian Sunday, the Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, urged school authorities to prioritize quality education alongside physical development.
He praised Sr. Kachope as a model leader who successfully ran Immaculate Heart Girls’ School, ensuring students excelled both academically and spiritually.
Speaking as the guest of honor, the Commissioner for Secondary Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ms. Atuhaire Juliet Muzoora, commended Sr. Kachope for her unwavering commitment to making Immaculate Heart an exemplary school. She noted key achievements such as increased student enrollment and infrastructure development, including dormitories and an amphitheater.
The farewell function was also attended by Rukungiri Municipality MP, Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, and the former school doctor of Immaculate Heart Girls’ School. They both applauded Sr. Kachope for being not just a school leader but also a parental figure, shaping the lives of millions of Ugandans.
According to Sr. Sabina, Sr. Kachope was recognized as the best head teacher at the continental level in 2019 and received a national award in 2018 for being the best teacher.
Sr. Kachope, in her farewell speech, expressed her deep love for Immaculate Heart Girls’ School, stating that she led it as her own project. She highlighted major achievements, including increased student enrollment, academic excellence, discipline, and infrastructure developments such as the Golden Jubilee Building. Additionally, she spearheaded the acquisition of multiple land pieces for the school and promoted social responsibility by giving back to the community.
The event also featured an awards ceremony recognizing the best performers in both UCE and UACE 2024. The school ranked 11th nationally in UCE.
