Hundreds of mourners on Saturday, April 11, thronged Kabumba Village in Nyabihoko Sub-county, Kajara County, Ntungamo District, to pay their last respects to Ms. Tereza Kuribakanya Kibwetere, the wife of the late Joseph Kibwetere, the defunct leader of the Church for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God.

Ms. Kibwetere had lived a quiet life in Kabumba Village since the 1990s, after she was rescued from her husband’s controversial church in Kanungu by her children, who never associated with their father’s faith. She passed away on Thursday at the home of one of her children, Mr. Kenneth Tukashaba, in Kampala.

Several speakers described her as a devout religious woman who dedicated herself to church service and showed great love to those around her, especially children.

Electoral Commission Commissioner Mr. Steven Tashobya, who spoke as the head of the Kibwetere family, described her as a wonderfully honest woman and a generous giver.

Rev. Fr. Oscar Ahimbisibwe, the parish priest of Kishariro Parish, who presided over the funeral mass, praised her generosity, noting that she continued giving to the church even during difficult times in her life.

Born in 1934 in Ruhaama Sub-county, Ntungamo District, Ms. Kibwetere is survived by four of the eight children she had with the late Joseph Kibwetere — Rugambwa Juvenile, Ahimbisibwe Mary, Charles Martin Lwanga, and Kenneth Tukashaba. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Only Mr. Tukashaba was able to attend the burial, with the other siblings reportedly out of the country.
