Tragedy struck on Saturday evening when a devastating head-on collision claimed the lives of three people and left 35 others injured along the Rukungiri–Ntungamo road.

The fatal crash occurred around 10:00PM at Omukiragiro Trading Centre in Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri District, involving a commuter taxi with yet-to-be-identified registration plates and a bus belonging to Perfect Bus Company, registration number UBN 331 G.

According to eyewitnesses, the commuter taxi traveling from Ntungamo towards Rukungiri was reportedly moving without headlights. The lack of lighting is believed to have caused a head-on collision with the bus en route from Rukungiri to Kampala.

The deceased include a five-year-old boy who was a passenger on the bus, as well as a woman and a taxi conductor who were traveling in the taxi. Their identities had not been confirmed by press time.

The bodies were transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre III for postmortem examinations, while the injured victims were rushed to Kalori Lwanga Hospital Nyakibale and Case Clinic, both located in Rukungiri Municipality.

Police are yet to issue an official statement on the accident, which has cast a dark cloud over the community.

RIP To the baby boy and more so to all fatalities.
I believe these people lost their lives because of poor mechanical conditions of a taxi(lights failure) and over speeding of bus driver.

The accident was caused by a taxi moving at night without lights! Simple as that. As a driver I can’t blame the bus driver at all

It’s so sad and my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Some drivers don’t respect speed humps, but also taxi owners and operators should also do the regular maintenance of their vehicles because it involves people’s lives.
