Hundreds of school-going children from various primary and secondary schools across the Kigezi region have arrived at the Kisoro Scripture Union Conference in Kisoro Municipality, currently taking place at Seseme Girls Secondary School.
The students, upon arrival, pledged to improve their morals before returning home. Most of them said that participation in such conferences has helped them develop respect for parents, guardians, and teachers, which in turn has positively impacted their academic performance.
They also noted that these conferences have played a major role in reducing student strikes in schools, with fewer incidents being reported in recent times.
Bright Ndahiro, a volunteer with the Kisoro Area Scripture Union, stated that the main objective of the conference is to enhance students’ spiritual and biblical understanding. He added that the event also aims to guide students on how to deepen their love for God.
Kakuru Jimmy, the Chairperson of the Kisoro Scripture Union Area, urged parents to send their children early to such events to allow proper planning and accommodation arrangements. He also warned students against leaving their homes under the pretense of attending the conference, only to end up in lodges, bars, and hotels.
